Day -2 Radheshyam Prabhu Bhagavadgita

Lecture Summary

Introduction: Part II

Purpose and Subject of Gita

What is the purpose?

* We want to be free from suffering and want to know the goal of life. Animals suffer but they don't ask why they are suffering. In contrast to that, we can ask why we are suffering.

* Cause of suffering: we turned away from Gita

* To reduce suffering, we invent new things like AC.

* Everything in this life we do with a goal. Imagine football without a goal post. Therefore we must ask what is the goal of life.

* Animal vs Human: Four common activities. Then how humans are superior. Even animals do these four activities better than humans. Elephant, mosquito, bear, lion. We may do all these activities more sophisticatedly but the goal is the same.

* They don't have reasoning? Cats eat milk. Animals fight, we also fight.

* We communicate for these four activities only.

* Humans can ask who am I? What is the goal? Why am I suffering?

* We have to harmonize our life with nature and god to attain eternal happiness.

* Why am I suffering? What are the real problems? Birth, old age, disease, and death. These are common for everyone. Nobody wants to. Nobody can escape.

* Janma-mrityu-jara-vyadhi…(BG 13.8-12) Story of Buddha seeing these four stages.

* We all see all these four stages. We have to ask these questions? How to get rid of these sufferings.

Someone may say that I am already born, now young and death is very far. I am happy now. Apart from these, there are other problems: adi bhautik (other living beings), adhyatmik (minds), adhidaivika (natural calamity: Corona)

Scientists give temporary solutions.

* Where do we go after this body? Some say that after this body we finish. But Krishna says that you are soul and this body is like a vehicle and soul is sitting inside. Car may become invalid but the soul is eternal.

* These bodies are awarded based on karma. Whatever desire one has he will be awarded another body. As you sow that will reap. Those who violate four regs will suffer but those who follow four regs will be happy.

* ABCD formula:

Subjects of Gita: There are five subjects

* Ishvara :  Behind this body, atma is there. Behind nature, ishvara is there. We are tiny controllers. But the lord is the supreme controller. There is only one PM similarly Krishna is one. He is the creator of all wonderful things. Mayaadhakshena prakriti…

* Prakriti :  There are two types. Para and apara. Material and spiritual world. This world is temporary. When clouds shower everything becomes so green. In summer all trees become shaven. At one time it is green and dry later. However, the spiritual world always remains green.

* Jiva: We can make planes fly but lords can make float planets. We can wash away ants by water but demigods can wash away by Tsunami. Hitler tried to become a controller but got wiped away.

* Kala : Time acts on everyone. Everything gets devoured

* Karma : For every action, there is a reaction. Who gives the reaction? For example, policemen punish you if you break a rule. Why are we living here?  At the time of death, everything is taken away. One must ask what is the purpose of life. We don’t do anything without purpose.

* Liberation is to leave this world and go back to godhead.

* We were in the custody of the lord and we want to be independent. That's why we came to this world. We need to recognize that we are servants of lord like Hanuman
