Why do we need Guru?
Arjuna in dilemma whether to fight or not. Surrenders to Krishna and prays to direct him. (2.7)
Arjuna: I have developed weakness of my nature and no desire to fight in the battle as his relatives will die. Mind is bewildered about my duty. I surrender to you as disciple and direct me to
Man in material perplexity: One who doesn't understand problems of life. Compared to animals. Miserly man who does not solve the problems of life.
Every living being renders some service to other but it is terminated with death. Relationships in material world are temporary.
Dharma of any substance is its innate nature. Dharma of soul is to serve God with unconditional love.
God is eternal, soul is eternal. Therefore loving relationship between the two is eternal. That eternal love and service to God is called 'SANATANA DHARMA'
Having forgotten God, we are reposing the love and service in temporary relationship in the world. and became spouse centred, work centred, money centred, pet centred, family centred but in reality we should develop God centredness.
We need to approach Guru to overcome perplexity. When we are attached to material world, we posses perplexities like angry, jealous, greedy, insulting others and develop no peace to the soul.
How to approach guru:
With attitude of doing service to guru, should take shelter of guru and learn to overcome perplexities.
BG. 2.8: Arjuna says, even he gets kingdom he wouldn't want to fight the war and requests krishna to guide him in right way as guru being completely surrendered.
Surrendering to Krishna, the Sat-Cid-Aananda rupa is really an intelligent move.
BG.2.9: Sanjaya disappoints Dritarashtra by declaring Arjuna as competent to kill the enemies. He informs Dritarashtra that he was in dilemma temporarily and now he is surrendered to Krishna and would fight soon.
3 effects of surrender which manifest in Arjuna:
1. Enlightenment
2. Freedom from false lamentation
3. Reinstatement in his own duty
BG.2.10 : Krishna starts speaking - Sanjaya reports that Krishna smiling because a friend had chosen to become a disciple. in the midst of both armies.
Bhagavadgita is openly discussed between the two armies. Therefore this knowledge is not for particular person, community or society, but for everyone. Friends and enemies both are entitled to gain the knowledge.
